Today you will arrive from Daressalaam – starting your adventure to the beautiful Usambara Mountains. You have to take the bus very early in the morning to arrive to Lushoto town. Here you will meet your guide and he will check your gear for the next days to make sure that you are well prepared for your hike. Together with your guide you will travel by local transport to Mkuzi where you will overnight at Mullers Mountain Lodge.
Depending on your arrival time & hiking speed, you will have time to hike to the Mkuzi waterfalls today OR the next morning.
Following breakfast you will start out at 8am, heading through farms where you can see coffee and banana plantations and experience local village life. Here you have the option of visiting the beautiful Mkuzi Waterfalls. You will have great views of the rolling hills of Lushoto. From here you will hike through the forest and beautiful plantations. Along the way you will see black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, birds, many colourful butterflies and Jacksons chameleons. In the afternoon you will arrive near Lukozi market where you will have dinner and overnight at Bushbaby Homestay.
Start the day hiking through the beautiful Shagayu rainforest. Here you will be able to see the famous Usambara violet flower which was discovered in 1884 by Saint Paul. On your way you will see Chambolo Peak and the beautiful surrounding ridges. Our guide will help you to spot the unique Two-Horn-Chameleons that only exist at Usambara. You will hike through Eukalyptus bosquets as well as tea and coffee plantations. At the end of a long hike, you will have dinner and overnight at Rangwi Sisters Convent Guesthouse.
After a nice breakfast we will start the last part of our hike. From Rangwi the terrain gets steeper and we are slowly leaving the forest behind, offering great views of the surrounding area and small villages. You will pass by Sunga village where the hike becomes more challenging. Our experienced guide will lead the way until you reach the spectacular ridge at Mambo View Point where you will be rewarded with stunning views into the valley, almost 2000 meters beneath you. You will hike along the ridge until you reach your accommodation which is located right at the ridge itself. From here you can enjoy a nice dinner and the beautiful sunset.
Today you will wake up with one of the most beautiful views of the Usambara Mountains. On a clear morning, you will be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro in a distance. Enjoy a heartly breakfast with fresh coffee before heading back to Lushoto. This is the end of your Usambara trip before heading back to Daressalaam.
