A walking safari at Selous Game Reserve is an exhilarating way to experience the wilderness up close and personal.
Start early in the morning at sunrise with your armed guide and head out into the bush. Follow animal tracks and learn how to identify signs of wildlife activity. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, giraffes, zebras, and other herbivores grazing in the grasslands. Watch for predators, such as lions and leopards, lazing in the shade.
Your guide will provide in-depth knowledge about the plants and animals you encounter, as well as insights into the challenges of conservation in the region. Enjoy a picnic lunch under a tree before continuing your adventure in the afternoon. End the day at your camp or lodge with a refreshing drink and a delicious meal, reflecting on your unforgettable walking safari experience.
After breakfast, check out from the lodge, you will drive to the beautiful Udzungwa Mountains for your overnight stay, an approximately 4 hours drive. Enjoy the scenery as you drive across the rough roads that define unforgettable safaris and the true traveler! This varied habitat is an excellent place to spot several rare wildlife species not seen anywhere else in Tanzania.
After breakfast, we can visit the impressive Sanje Waterfalls. The hike takes about 4 hours and you will be rewarded with an incredible view of the waterfalls and the surrounding mountains.
After our hike, we will proceed to Mikumi National Park.
Hike duration: 4 hours
Transfer to Mikumi: 3 hours
After breakfast enjoy the full game drive in park. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the Park. When you are in Mikumi you will be able to see wide variety of bird species, zebras, hippos, hartebeest, wildebeest, impala, warthog, eland antelope, giraffe, buffalo and elephants and overnight at your accommodation.
After breakfast, you will drive with a lunch box in hand to Ruaha, visiting local villages and farms along the way. You will pass through the Kitonga Hills, which are part of the Udzungwa Mountains. The road then follows the Great Ruaha River and then climbs the Great Rift Escarpment.
Accompanied by an armed ranger, you will start the day with a walking safari. Afternoon game drive, we go in search of the diverse wildlife and birds of Ruaha in our 4×4 safari vehicles. This massive national park covers about 20 226 km² (7 809 mi²) of uninhabited African wilderness, including vast open plains and rocky hills dotted with baobab trees. In Ruaha, we encounter far fewer people than in most other reserves, especially the famous northern parks of Tanzania (Serengeti and Ngorongoro). You can look forward to a crowd-free African safari experience with plenty of wildlife sightings!
Today, we will have another full day game drive to explore another area of the national park. This is a more extensive ecosystem, which includes Rungwa Game Reserve, Usangu Game Reserve, and several other protected areas. The name of the park is derived from the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its South-Eastern margin and is the focus for game-viewing. Ruaha is believed to have a high concentration of elephants than any National Park in East Africa. It is also a place where, magnificent mammals like Kudu, Sable and Roan antelopes can easily be spotted in Miombo woodland. The park is also a habitat for endangered wild dogs. Other animals in the park include lions, leopards, cheetah, giraffes, zebras, elands, impala, bat eared foxes and jackals.
We will be back at your lodge for sunset to enjoy your last evening at Ruaha National Park & to end your safari adventure.
Today is departure day. After breakfast, we will drive back to Daressalaam or optional to Dodoma with picnic lunch on the way where you will arrive late afternoon for overnight.
