A daytrip to Arusha National Park is a perfect addition to your Kilimanjaro Climb if you cannot spend more in Tanzania. You can make it an additional highlight after climbing Kilimanjaro. The park is located about 2 hours from Moshi Town and 1 hour from Arusha center.

Arusha National Park is a magnificent wildlife reserve located in Tanzania, East Africa. Established in 1960, this park covers an area of approximately 137 square kilometers and is located only a few kilometers from the city of Arusha. The park is part of the larger Arusha-Meru ecosystem, which is composed of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and the Ngurdoto Crater.

Arusha National Park is a unique destination for wildlife enthusiasts as it is one of the few places in Tanzania where visitors can witness both savannah and forest ecosystems within one park. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, buffalos, warthogs, and baboons, as well as a host of predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas.

The park is also home to an impressive array of bird species, with over 400 species recorded within its borders. Visitors to the park can expect to see a variety of birdlife, including the African fish eagle, the lilac-breasted roller, the grey-headed kingfisher, and the secretary bird, among others.

One of the main attractions in Arusha National Park is the Ngurdoto Crater, also known as the “Little Ngorongoro.” The crater is a remnant of a collapsed volcano and is an impressive sight to behold. The crater is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffalos, baboons, and warthogs, and visitors can enjoy a game drive around the rim of the crater for a chance to see these animals in their natural habitat.

Another popular attraction in Arusha National Park is Mount Meru, which is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania after Mount Kilimanjaro. The mountain is located within the park’s borders and is a popular hiking destination for visitors. The climb up Mount Meru is a challenging yet rewarding experience, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and wildlife. The hike to the summit of Mount Meru typically takes three to four days, and visitors must be accompanied by a guide.

Aside from game drives and hiking, Arusha National Park offers visitors a variety of other activities to enjoy, including canoeing and walking safaris. Canoeing is a unique way to experience the park’s wildlife and landscapes, as visitors paddle down the Momela Lakes while taking in the stunning views of Mount Meru and the surrounding wildlife. Walking safaris are also popular, offering visitors a chance to get up close and personal with the park’s wildlife and learn more about the local ecosystems.

Arusha National Park is also home to several cultural sites that offer visitors a glimpse into the local culture and history of the area. The park is home to the Ngaramtoni Cultural Center, which offers visitors an opportunity to learn about the customs and traditions of the local Maasai and Meru tribes. Visitors can also visit the Old Boma Museum, which was once the residence of the German colonial governor of the region and now serves as a museum showcasing the history of the area.

One of the unique features of Arusha National Park is its accessibility. The park is located only 32 kilometers from Arusha, the largest city in northern Tanzania, and can be easily reached by road. Visitors to the park can also fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport, which is located only 60 kilometers away from the park.

In conclusion, Arusha National Park is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in wildlife and nature. With its unique combination of savannah and forest ecosystems, diverse wildlife, and stunning landscapes, the park offers visitors a truly unforgettable experience. From game drives to hiking, canoeing, and cultural visits, there is something for everyone to enjoy
