Of course it helps if you are in a good shape and physical condition – it will also make the hike more enjoyable for you. We always recommend to start at least 3 month prior to your hike to go hiking frequently, to get used to your hiking boots and simply to be active. You don’t have to be a professional hiker or mountain runner to successfully climb Kilimanjaro. Going hiking, living healthy, paying attention to your diet and stop smoking are some good examples how Kilimanjaro can improve your life by setting it as your goal that you want to achieve.

Give yourself enough time to prepare. It is not a rocket science, but it definitely requires some time to read and understand all necessary information. A very important and often overlooked detailed is selecting the right shoes for your hike. Nothing can be more haunting than aching feet and uncomfortable shoes. That is something very individual but also something that you can control quite easily. Another very important part of preparing yourself is to go walking and hiking frequently. You don’t have to hit the gym for 2 hours a day but a basic routine in hiking and fat walking is essential to prepare your body for distance that must be covered each day on the mountain.
